I just finished reading “Blankets” by Craig Thompson last night and I was blown away.  I have never in my life read a graphic novel that caused such an emotional response .  It is a tale about awkwardly growing up in a small farm town while struggling with real life problems that have lasting effects into adult hood. But more than that it is a tale of first love and the hopeful nature of youth . (more…)

So today I had the pleasure of watching something I had never seen before. A roller derby bout. It was put on by the Chattanooga Roller Girls and I have to say, it was amazing. I did not know what to expect as I entered the Chattanooga Trade Center, and I was really surprised at how much fun I had watching these women compete at a sport I can now say is completely underrated.

It is 11:41 at night and I just finished the First Graphic Novel for the series “Irredeemable”. It was my 2nd read through of the book. Most of my friends know I have been a huge fan of comic books since I was a little kid. I grew up on heroes like Superman and Batman, Captain America, The X-men, etc, etc.  When I was a kid, these Comic Book stars taught me right from wrong, and no matter what, they always made the right choice in the end.

So Monday night’s Raw was shocking to say the least. Of course it dealt with the fallout of Wrestlemania and the whole BS Cena/Rock feud. But what really had my interest was the announcement from Edge. I found it odd that he was making it on RAW but I assumed he was going to challenge someone on that brand. To my surprise, he announced his retirement from wrestling.

A number of years ago, Edge broke his neck wrestling. Since then has been experiencing numbness in his limbs as well as other symptoms. He went to the doctors after Wrestlemania and was told that if he did not retire, he would be in a wheelchair very soon.

I was emailed a link today about the birds falling from the skies and the fish washing up to shore dead. Has anyone done any research into this?

I was going through youtube.com earlier on this week and stumbled across the music videos for a lot of my favorite rock groups from the 90s. It got me thinking how much I miss the old school some days. But then there are things best forgotten from that era. One of the greatest movies of all time was the original house party. When Kid had his ridiculous “Eraser” Haircut and people actually thought play was cool.

A cab combs the snake Tryin’ to rake in that last night’s fare And a solitary sailor Who spends the facts of his life like small change on strangers Paws his inside P-coat pocket for a welcome twenty-five cents And the last bent butt from a package of Kents As he dreams of a waitress with Maxwell House eyes And marmalade thighs with scrambled yellow hair Her rhinestone-studded moniker says, “Irene” As she wipes the wisps of dishwater blonde from her eyes

In every man’s life, there is a moment when he falls in love. And I do not mean In love with a woman. That is a love that will go on and change, or fall apart.. No, I am speaking of a love that runs much deeper into his soul. It’s a love that never be quenched, can never be dimmed. It’s the love of a car. They may not all talk about it, but every man has a car that he saw once in his life that he will always be in love with.
